Departments 

Clubwomen are encouraged to select a department of work wherein their interest lies. There is something for everyone who becomes a member of the GaFWC. The six departments of work and their programs are Arts, Conservation, Education, Home Life, International Affairs and Public Affairs.

 

Arts Department   

Projects encouraging artistic expression, and preserving art as a natural resource.

  • Arts in the Community
    • -Encourage members to foster and support arts activities in all communities (VSA, art for youth, fostering Community Art, music, drama, member craft competition)

      -Encourage members and youth to develop creative writing skills and to recognize their achievements (member/youth short story, poetry contests

  • Creative Arts
    • -Encourage members’ artistic expression and recognize and support members’ achievements in photography (photography, painting, student art contests)

    Education Department    

    Projects raising awareness of adult/youth literacy and continuing education programs among women.

  • Focus on Literacy
    • -Educate members and others about rates of low literacy and stimulate citizen action to address impact and concern related to literacy (Adult, Family & Youth Literacy and Tutoring)

  • Education in the Community
    • -Promoting commitment to lifelong learning by encouraging members and others to foster and support educational opportunities in their communities (ESO, Support Libraries, Scholarships and Learning Disabilities)

     

    Interntional Affairs Department    

    Projects promoting understanding and acceptance of all peoples and providing international aid.

  • Reaching Out Internationally
    • -Educate members and others about world needs and provide opportunities to offer support. (Plan USA, Clowns Without Borders, Cure International, Heifer International, Global Volunteers, Operation Smile, Save the Children, World Food Day, Cultural Exchange, Operation Christmas Child and CARE)

  • United Nations
    • -Educate members and others about United Nations programs concerning women and children, and support GFWC’s presence as a UN Non-Governmental Organization Observer. (United Nations, UNICEF and UNIFEM)

  • Conservation Department   

    Projects promoting increasing awareness of energy options, preserving natural resources and education of waste management.

  • Beautification in the Community
    • -Educate members about the importance and benefits of beautifying their communities (Community Beautification, Litter prevention, Tree Planting)

  • Resource Conservation in the Community
    • -Educate Members and communities about the importance of preserving the natural resources and stimulate citizen action to address these concerns (Preservation local, state, national parks, endangered ecosystems and wildlife.)

    Home Life Department  

    Projects providing education on financial issues & health awareness.

  • Focus on Financial Program
    •  -Educate members and communicate to them and other citizens the value of retirement planning regardless of age or income and to provide resources for protection of personal information and credit, prevention of identity theft and making the most of their donations. (Retirement Income, Credit, Wise Giving, Identity Theft and Social Security)

  • Helping Hands in the Community
    • -Introduce members and communities to organizations that improve the lives of those in need (Canine Companions for Independence, Easter Seals, Habitat for Humanity, Heavenly Hats, Hunger in America/Georgia, March of Dimes, National Organization on Disability (NOD), Dream House for Medically Fragile Children, Project Share, H.E.A.T., Inc.)

  • Focus on Health
    • -Educate members and others about the most prevelent medical problems affecting women today, and encourage women to adopt proven methods for optimizing their own physcal heatlh and quality of life. (Healthy Lifestyles, “For Her Glory”, Women’s Health)

    Public Affairs Department   

    Projects reducing violence, fostering civic involvement, and increasing safety for older Americans.

  • Citizenship in Action
    • - Educate embers and others about the importance of active citizenship, veteran’s affairs and historic prevervation and encourage participation in related activities. (Veterans Affairs, Citizenship Participation, Patriotism)

  • Focus on Community Safety
    • -(Educate members and others about community, home and vehicle safety issues and encourage citizen action on these issues.  (Community Safety, Home Safety, Vehicle Safety).
